Sonata was founded in 2009 when the shareholders were requested to take over the technical management of a fleet of general cargo ships.

The team at Sonata transformed the technical performance and operational practices on board these vessels and reduced operational costs whilst implementing systems to correct existing technical and operational problems.

The Sonata team has 40 years experience managing bulk carriers, container vessels, tankers, bitumen carriers and Ro-ros for international companies. The company currently manages and crews over 55 vessels.

Our mission is to provide our customers with competent, safe, environmentally sound and cost effective services. We are committed to continuously developing our systems and skills in a proactive approach by ensuring that all employees, whether onshore or onboard, are committed to Sonata's corporate philosophy of "We Manage Ships Safely & Efficiently".

We require every employee to recognise, report and attempt to correct any potentially unsafe condition and participate in finding ways to reduce and mitigate safety risks. This corporate safety culture is a vital part of training for all staff and is supported by everyone working with Sonata Ship Management whether ashore or on our managed vessels.

The following principles are the core of Sonata’s management system:

  • Loss prevention
  • Safe and optimised vessel operations
  • Providing services adjusted to the needs of the Customer
  • Performance of all processes and activities in a controlled and transparent manner
  • Providing services that meet internationally recognised standards and requirements

Sonata’s management aim to establish a very good working relationship with the Owners team by maintaining daily contact with the Owner’s appointed technical and commercial personnel with periodic visits to discuss, assess and plan past and future performance
